A Conversation With A Young Man - April 20, 2018

Originally I was going to do as I usually do, which is "make a mess, clean it up".  I write and type like the wind - and I once met a man named E.B. White.  Yes, it was "that" E.B.White, the author of Stuart Little, and Charlotte's web - and countless other stories and books.

The one thing he told me, when I with a group of other young award winning youth met the famous writer, was that phrase.  "Forget writers block - just make a mess, and clean it up."  "Write every day if you can."  "The difference between writers and everyone else, is that writers write."

E.B. White, also told me when I met him as a young writer, that he had learned his craft from a man named McGuffey, a famous citizen of Ohio and professor from Miami of Ohio.

This shaped my life, as when I was offered the opportunity to study at Miami, I accepted without hesitation.

Miami of Ohio - the oldest school West of the Allegheny mountains, Miami of Ohio at Oxford - near the Ohio river, and Cincinnati.  He always claimed he learned to write from a man long-dead when I came along,

EB wrote "Charlotte's Web", and like most real books, it contained truths embedded in simple words - terrible, real truths about life, about human greed, deliberate ignorance and injustice.

From the moment I met Mr. White, I knew I would write - and speak, and words would be life.  Thus, this short story.

So as usual, I let the words flow to my young friend Rainer Shea - a 17 year old man, a very mature man, a man of power and incredible influence, who in our opinion here at New Hope is destined for either a Nobel Peace Prize or a bullet....

I described my yesterday to Rainer Shea - and then as I so frequently do, prepared to condense and edit, and craft a well-rounded document using the skills I've gained in a lifetime of writing on the topics of peace, equality, human greed and institutionalized injustice.

And then - I stopped.

I thought.

I listened to my heart - and remembered I wasn't just talking to the wind, I had written these words to Rainer Shea.

So here you go - screenshots, warts and all.

Discussion. The Divinity of Jesus, Mohammed, Krishna and the Buddha

It is important to embrace that at no time did Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, Krishna, Confucius or any other of the noted "Saviors" of early history claim that belief in them, and them alone, made a man or woman worthy of the love of God.  Historically, none of these men (and there are women) ever demanded "fealty of worship" which is the groveling, the kneeling and the elevation of them above any other person.

Each said specifically - I am of the same flesh as you, and if you follow my path, you can do miracles also.

TWhen we began the walk of faith that became first a family charity, and then gradually evolved into the New Hope Anabaptist Faith and the New Hope School, it began when I met a small cluster of nuns while I was helping maintain a Catholic Church that was scheduled for demolition, but was still being used for a poor Hispanic congregation in downtown Fort Wayne.

At the time I was deeply troubled, quite insane - and riddled with addiction and the kind of self-hatred and doubt that walks hand in hand with Doctor Phil "Tough Love" philosophies and America's cruel and sadistic "War on Drugs".

But, I am my Father's son, a Catholic then, now and always - and I am good with tools. On days when I was not knee deep in my own crepulence and problems, I would visit that beautiful church, and fix things.

Sister Rita approached me after mass, a towering person - one of the most intimidating people I've ever known (yet she is tiny ). In her soft voice she asked if I could fix a record player at the nun house a few blocks away.

I was not aware that moment would change the arc of my existence - and begin to restore my hope, and my ability to walk among people without shame or fear.

Two years later my friend Mike Benedict and I were beginning Right Hand Enterprises (Helping People Help Each Other), and I was sweating

o ask for help honestly honors both self and God, and it feeds the world - for to ask for and receive help provides the giver with the fruit of human kindness - a spiritual banquet

Questions for People of Faith - A Serious Discussion

These questions matter greatly to we of New Hope.

Sorry for the long post - but we need to think about these three things. In summary, we would like to learn more about your opinion on these three points of misunderstanding.  The detailed discussion topics point-by-point follow this brief contextual introduction.

1. We believe God is universal, and reaches out to all people everywhere equally - and was not selfish with his truth.

2. The 4th commandment may forbid going forth to convert.

3. The original bible has survived, and is being ignored on
purpose, perhaps to justify for-profit religions and predatory greed by the corporations and the wealthy.

Yours in Faith,

John Hubertz, Foundational Elder,
New Hope Anabaptist and Peace Academy,
Fort Wayne (worldwide)

The discussion in detail:

1. How do you react to the concept (that we believe) that God was not selfish, and has reached out to man in all places, at all times, and indeed - continuously does so.

In other words, for a person from India or China, is it actually appropriate or even morally correct to imply belief in Jesus is required for access to God's grace and truth?

2. How do you feel about respecting the fourth commandment (honor thy father and mother) in the context of discouraging the almost universal modern Christian culture pushing of our Christian beliefs into other people's lives?

These people of Hindu or Islamic or Buddhist or Primitive faith have perhaps thousands of years of family ties and faith traditions - traditions that at the heart are not different than our own.

We are concerned this violates the fourth commandment by failing to encourage our brethren of other cultures and faiths to "Honor their father and their mother."

Is it not true that leading someone into grievous sin is sinful?  Of course, if someone approaches us hungry for our truth, we share, but only then.

3. Why do traditional Christian faiths, including our own Anabaptist brethren (amish, old-order mennonite) consistently ignore and even argue over the Dead Sea gospels known as the Nag Hammadi?

How do you explain that people think our King James Bible, which sprang from an early Pope and Emperor Constantine's choices to assemble a "bible" and a religion/government partnership is superior to recently (1947) discovered Gospels - which are original Aramaic texts that emerged from a cave intact?

How do you explain that the original Jewish Talmud and Torah, the roots and wellspring of the faith Jesus practiced, are ignored except in heavily edited form within the traditional Christian/Catholic Biblical traditions?

If the Gospels are sacred, why was it not cause for celebration in the streets and our houses of worship when the originals were finally found, and 1700 years of "corporate" faith and government abuses of believers could be no longer justified, and thus cast aside in favor of Jesus' unaltered words and instructions?

Marriage - Gay and Otherwise in Historical Context

Marriage is an institution that originated from the concept of lineage and separated the land owning gentry from the common man.

Then as now, 5% of people possessed 95% of all land, money and other resources.

To assure that these possessions would never fall into the hands of the teeming masses of "lesser" humanity, marriage assured unbroken bloodlines, regardless of the fertility or lack thereof of the original families.

For 1700 years, since a Roman Pope and the Emperor Constantine formulated the church/state alliance of power and established rules of possession and deeded property, this institution has allowed predatory capitalism to allow the greedy and those of great wealth to die - leaving soulless, immortal family "corporations" that would assure the resources were lost to the rest of us for eternity.

Robbespierre and the French Revolution, and France's ongoing commitment to protest to achieve immediate compliance by the wealthy elite are the only known successful opposition to this system.  As human rights and human liberties require a sufficiency of food, water and shelter for all people, and a lack of these cause unending conflict and profitable wars - the system of land "ownership" and denial of resources is self sustaining.

Human greed and desire for reproductive success tap into our genetic hungers, and those who reach the top of ladder of human "success" make self justication into a fine art.
